REVIEW: IV The Polymath

.:ALBUM REVIEW: IV The Polymath - New Vs. Old

In the past few years, instrumental hip-hop albums have started to garner widespread attention. Previously, MCs used to seek out beat tapes to practice their rhymes or find producers for their albums. Nowadays, producers can release entire projects that don’t sound out of place without a rapper spitting over the tracks. This tradition of showcasing beats without rappers started back in the mid 90s with the help of artists such as DJ Shadow and his album “Endtroducing.” The latest release to come across my desk in this genre is IV the Polymath’s “New Vs Old.”

ARTICLE: 5 Hip-Hop Words We’d Like Forgotten After 2009

2009 02 10 BlogLog ARTICLE: 5 Hip Hop Words Wed Like Forgotten After 2009

"Swagger Like Us" at 51st annual Grammy Awards.

The Examiner has an interesting article about overused words in 2009...pretty interesting...I am sure I can think of another 10 words I would like MC's to forget...but there's also a few words/verses said this year that I would love to hear more too...maybe that's an article I can write on a future post...

Personally I only fully agree with two of them, but Swag is slowly going up my list, everyone seems to have more Swag than the next man nowadays...

The Examiner list goes like this:

1. Hater (Agree)

The term is usually used to point out an individual that is spewing hate for no particular reason except because of pure envy; or that is how it started...

2. No Homo

It is with great pleasure that this writer holds no mercy on “No Homo.” The term is most popularly used to somehow exempt the person using it from appearing or displaying homosexual qualities...

3. Swag

Oh but yes, the infamous “Swag.” The term “Swag” is usually used to describe one’s style whether it be regarding fashion or just the essence of a person.

4. 1st (Couldn't Agree More, Hate when people do this, Deam Childish)

The term “1st” isn’t really used in Hip-Hop per se, but you do see it in the comment areas of urban blogs and websites. Not sure how the word came to be, but it is used by commenter’s who somehow feel like winners when they are the first to comment on a post...

5. Guap

Though it shows much creativity, it somehow loses its pizzazz after those within the mainstream get a hold of it. Similar to the word “Bling”, “Guap” has become played out in its own right...

What do you think?
