To be honest, I have somewhat been a bit passive in recognising Gensu Dean’s work. He definitely has been putting in mad work -producing for major hip-hop acts in recent times (ODB, David Banner etc) as well as putting out a star studded debut Standard Life on the Mellow Music Group label. I dare say his past material didn’t really hit my radar, or maybe I had my attentions elsewhere – I can’t really tell. Anyways, the man in question has teamed up with one of my favourite West Coast wordsmiths Planet Asia, and together they brought forth the seventeen-track album, aptly named Abrasions.

Expect hard hitting gems with somewhat soulful and cinematic soundscapes throughout the album – and, of course, razor sharp darts from the main conspirator himself. Although he brings in a few others (Twin Gambino, Tragedy Khadafi etc) along for the ride, PA steals the show with effortless graphical lyricism. A favourite of mine is the 70s sounding ‘Cochise’ (All Cooley High fans, raise thy hands) where PA weaves a revenge mission of epic proportion.
