The C&K Street Series features Commoners and Kings performing impromptu spoken word poems on the streets of Southern California. In this episode, Bay Area poet, QUEEN D aka Danee Black and I check out Melrose Blvd., one of Los Angeles’s well known areas for shopping, as she looks for unique items that compliment her fashion sensiblity. She is a Grand Slam Champion and has been on several slam teams with Oakland and San Francisco. Her style is truthful and personal as she shares with me how poetry helped her be more expressive.

We dip into an alley behind the stores where she performs HIV, a poem that discusses the disease that is still destroying our communities.
