The C&K Street Series features Commoners and Kings performing impromptu spoken word poems on the streets of Southern California. Even though its not on the streets I had to take advantage of filming MAHOGANY L. BROWNE, after her multi-media show BLACK GIRLS DON’T SMILE MOSAIC IN FRONT OF STRANGERS. She is a writer who has also released five LPs, produced some stages shows, and has written content for major magazines.

She is the Slam host and curator of the Friday Night Slam Series at the NUYORICAN POETS CAFE, which held the first poetry slam ever in New York City in 1989. She is the publisher of penmanship books, a small press for performance artist and owner of POETCD.COM, an on-line marketing and distrubution company for poets.

For me her show was not just a creative way to present spoken word, but an intresting way to tell her story and for an audience to get a piece of her as a gift to think on, to quote, to dream and to inspire us. She shares a poem from the show entitled THIS…
