Some really interesting news coming out of the offices of DJ Shadow today with the crackdown on torrenting as an extension of the big drive to reduce pirating (which is failing spectacularly by the way), as plans are announced to release his upcoming LP “Total Breakdown: Hidden Transmissions From The MPC Era, 1992-1996” digitally on BitTorrent as part of a ‘bundle’, one which could revolutionise torrenting in the same way DJ Shadow revolutionised instrumental Hip Hop.

What makes this so unique is that the bundle will come with free software from one of BitTorrent’s advertising partners. Every time a user chooses to accept the offer of free software, DJ Shadow will recieve commission on any revenue. This is a business venture that particularly excites BitTorrent CEO Eric Klinker. I think. It’s hard to tell behind all that corporate jargon:
