After the brief hiatus, WIB Meets returns with gusto as we sit back with the man from Queens, the man who has been blessing us with rock solid joints for a minute now. Nutso is the name and y’all should be pretty familiar with it if y’all have been checking out our pages. As you all know, WIB Meets takes you beyond the music and behind the minds of the creators so sit back and digest what we have in store for today.

For the benefit of anyone who’s been living in an underground bunker for the past several years…who on earth are you?

I’m an MC from Queens, NY that has been putting in a lot of work, my discography is lengthy, rocked songs with many of your favorite artists, I’m unsigned but we work in a major way and I’m a storyteller for the streets – the name is Nutso a/k/a @NutsoPPM on all social media!

How did you get started in music, and what drives you to continue?

I got started doing open mic’s and battles at Fat Beats NYC & NYorican Café in LES. My fans drive me to continue and my love for hip-hop and all music in general. Music is my escape.

Do you remember the first recording/song you ever made? Yes, it was called Lyrical Format back in 96’. I learned what song structure was then, I just rhymed for hours, lol. Produced by my current manager/partner, Ron Mills.

If a movie about your life in music was to be made, what interesting/strange moments and stories would you share to make the movie cool?

My overseas experiences and working with other artists, how this music game can really lead you to become nuts & stressed, plus how our personal life co-exists with the industry. The movie would definitely have to be a comedy.

Are there any other interesting facts about you that hardly anyone else knows?

Yes, one interesting fact would be that I enjoy doing stand-up comedy. I always add some comedic line to all my songs, everyone loves to laugh bruh.. you can’t be a killer on every record or be serious…

What is the greatest thing about working in the music industry? And what would you change if you had the opportunity?

The greatest thing or things would be performing, traveling and meeting new people. I would definitely change radio and allow more unsigned artists to be heard. Lot of great one’s out there not given a chance.  Stop looking at charts and keep your ears to the streets. Don’t follow the leader, take chances and break records.

Looking back, what have been the most important moments in your life so far?

Musically, meeting and working with Hip-Hop legends I grew up listening to.

What have been the biggest highlights?

Performing At The Apollo. I opened up for Kanye West and The Roots back in 2001. Having DJ Premier at my ‘This is My Hood’ video shoot and seeing my entire borough come out for me (while they had beef, but everyone remained cool) for the same video. Also, I did a video for ‘Galaxy of Queens’ and it was the first time you saw CNN come together after talks of beef, and Tragedy Khadafi came and did a cameo. It was great to see them all come together since War Report for my video!

What has been your biggest challenge…and how did you overcome it?

My biggest challenge has been overcoming stage fright. I overcome it every time I get on that stage.

Who are your heroes? Why do they rock your world?

Run DMC rocked the 80’s, Nas rocked the 90’s and 50 Cent took over the millennium. I represent Queens and they are all Pioneers from Queens. They put the bricks down that we all walk on to get to the top.

Who have been the coolest, most memorable people you’ve met along the way, and how did they make an impact on your life?

Kool DJ Red Alert, DJ Premier and DJ Evil Dee are some of the coolest and most memorable convo’s I had. They are great mentors…they dropped some jewels on me about the hip-hop game. Plus, my team #NoLabelJustUS we came a long way, and I wouldn’t be here without US.

When you’re sitting on the porch age 97 what would you like to look back on and smile having achieved?

When I look back I would be most proud of achieving doing what I enjoy most and that is music and entertainment.  Making my fam proud is a priority.

What has been your most memorable or inspirational gig and why?

The most memorable would be performing in the Canary Islands, Spain amongst thousands of people alongside Redman and Craig G! That was the biggest crowd I’ve performed in front of. The most inspiring was when I met Ice-T and he put me on to game. I also had the pleasure of interviewing him for a hip-hop magazine from London.

What has been your strangest celebrity encounter?

The strangest encounter was when I was calling my boy Jay outside of a club during a DMX release party and Jay Z turned around and thought I was talking to him. He then came over and gave me a pound.

Who would be your ideal dinner guest, living or dead, and what would you serve them?

My ideal dinner guest would be Big Pun and I would serve him arroz con pernil and some henny!!

What are the greatest songs, albums, books, movies, TV shows, websites you’ve ever come across?

There will always be a greater song and a book, and a movie, so this is a trick question. Remember the past, live today, and look towards the future. Word is Bond.

Name 5 songs (yours excluded) that we would expect to find on your iPod or Music

Mobb Deep – “Shook Ones Part II

50 Cent – “Heat

Barrington Levy – “Broadway

Nirvana – “Come As You Are

Nas – “Nas Is Like

What special-hero type skills are you blessed with?

I am very spiritual. So it would have to be a Dr. Strange type of hero, magician of sorts but with mind tricks.
