‘Maya Angelou ’96’, the newest track from emcee The Faze, shows that there are still some who put in their all when it comes to hip-hop. The Faze teams up with producer Willie B who cooks up an emotionally powerful soundscape for the rapper to paint his personal ordeals for all to see and hear. Another interesting point is he actually uses some Maya quotes in the song to emphasize his views as he goes for the long verse route while switching up the flow as required sans catchy hooks.

This is really interesting.

(Moreno Valley, CA) Bred in the hot and arid Moreno Valley, just an hour east of downtown LA, this solo emcee named The Faze seems to finally be on the cusp of widespread attention with release of his track “Maya Angelou ’96.”   The highly intuitive song and simple video helps round out the final bit of content from his December 3rd release The Suicide Note, which has sold 1,000 copies independently to date.

To follow up The Suicide Note project, The Faze will be releasing his project The Rebel Era, a collaborative effort with famed TDE producer Willie B.  Known for having produced “Rigamortis” for Kendrick Lamar, “Black Lip Bastard” for Ab-Soul and the title track to ScHoolBoy Q’s project Oxymoron, Willie B brings an undeniable element of musicality to the project.  Work with a platinum TDE producer also helped The Faze land a track on Statik Selektah’s most recent project, AWOL Radio Vol Won.

“Maya Angelou and her writing was highly influential in the development of my style and writing. The song is what some would people think is just one long verse, but really its a conceptual record and its timeless because inside there are quotes from Maya Angelou and it has quotes that relate to my life and some of the things that I will still say years from now. Quotes that will never get old. Its a timeless record with lessons of life and quotes that I will never forget,” The Faze explained about the song “Maya Angelou ’96.”
