2014 is becoming a wonderful year for Nas… and he is definitely Charlie Sheen-ing it! In addition to the release of Illmatic XX, to working with XBOX on a half-hour series based on his life in the 90s, there’s a film that will chronicle the making of Nas’s magnum opus, called ‘Time Is Illmatic’. This documentary is scheduled to be shown at the opening night of the Tribeca Film Festival (April 16th), which will include him performing ‘Illmatic’ in its entirety (buy tickets).

Speaking of the festival, according to the Hollywood Reporter, the Time Is Illmatic film will be receiving an Inaugural Candescent Award through Candescent Films (via partnership with TFF), as part of a new grant program designed to support the making of documentary films.

Time Is Illmatic is a lyrical film that inspires us to overcome social and economic challenges and celebrates cultural history.  I am honored to support the heartbeat of this film through the Candescent Award.  Candescent’s partnership with the Tribeca Film Institute is exciting to me as they provide vital resources to emerging artists and the documentary community,” said Lilly Hartley, a producer and actress who formed Candescent in 2011.
