Long-time readers and first-time link clickers alike will know Word Is Bond is a fan of Redef Records, if nothing else than for the fact that they have been steady dropping some of the best Hip-Hop records in recent years. To celebrate and validate this claim we present the following give-away; an auditory annal featuring some of the highlights of their roster’s output in 2013 for you to supplement your music collection.

K-Def‘s One Man Band saw the “most underrated” apply his polymathic production skills to some of the genre’s most iconic beats (who else went nuts when those “Keep It Real” piano keys came in?) in a celebratory record that set listeners up with a taster of what was a highly productive year for the legendary producer.  Speaking of tasters, label co-founder Damu The Fudgemunk unveiled the “trailer” for his upcoming LP with Spur Momento Trailer; a welcome selection of considered beats, after those flawless Union remixes back in 2012, that firmly embodied the label’s east coast roots.  Kev Brown, meanwhile, took the label south for Brazil Dedication. Many producers have famously plundered the countries crates before, but the Low Budget producer (who laid down some of the year’s illest bass lines on that Vibe Tape) made the sound his own through his MPC and on-site sample procurement.

Taking the label geographically further still was Klaus Layer; the German boom-bap prodigy who debuted his LP The Adventures of Captain Crook. Defined by stout drum-work and psychedelia, the album also boasted one of the summer’s defining singles with “Illest In Charge” featuring west coast mic bruiser, Blu who’s once-enigmatic record with Pete Rock saw a physical manifestation as the The Clean Hand EP was released; finally breaking that No York curse (the rationale behind that title, not the album itself which was great) and inspiring the emcee to lay some A-Game verses on an east coast backdrop. One figure who the Soul Brother #1 famously inspired was of course J Dilla, whose production attributes and sampling affinities were celebrated in the exploratory The King James Version, Volume 1 by DJ House Shoes.

Anyway, enough of the “six degrees of separation” game, check out the give-away below, and for shit’s sake make some room on your shelves before you enter…
